Punjab: Lovely Professional University (LPU) Pro-Chancellor Dr (Col) Rashmi Mittal urged the students to remain calm and verify information before acting on social media posts. Her reaction came after the recent incident on the university campus. She addressed the students and called the incident unfortunate.
“But what happened was very, very unfortunate. I never thought something like this would happen,” Mittal said.
She added that the university has multiple channels to raise concerns, including the Student Relationship division, an online platform, and regular meetings with authorities.
Mittal claimed that some students acted on a rumour shared via social media without seeking clarification from the authorities in the university. Mittal alleged that, apart from the students, outsiders were looting the campus and shops.
The University has announced a 10-day leave for students. It has also postponed the campus recruitment drives. She urged the students to use this time to calm down and prepare for the upcoming exams.
Mittal also extended the university’s support and said legal action would be taken against the outsiders who were involved in the incident.
